Who this guide is for
US adults who can already see a Polymarket home screen — or a help.polymarket.com / docs.polymarket.us tab — and now need to tell the public website they click from the CLOB that matches the order. This is not how to tell the website from the app, not how to read the order book, not how to read best bid and ask, and not how to tell maker from taker. Those pages are which install is the US desk, the sitting ladder, the inside quote, and who added size versus who lifted it. This page is only the surface-versus-matching-layer split. Then we link out. Polymarket is the only live outbound on this page.
What the public US site is for
Official Place a Trade is the click path. Official Browse Markets is the card. Official Website vs App still sends US residents to the US app. Those pages name the public surface. They do not name a CLOB button.
The public US surface is what you tap, type, and swipe
Official Place a Trade + Browse Markets
Official Place a Trade: from the home screen, browse available markets, tap any market to open it, select Yes or No, enter a dollar amount or tap Max, review, then swipe up to confirm. Official Browse Markets reprints the market question, current Yes and No prices, and a resolution date on each card. Those are the retail clicks. They are the website-or-app layer this page is after — the screen a person actually touches. They are not the book that matches the order after the swipe.
Official Website vs App still points US residents at the US app
Official Website vs App
Official Website vs App (June 25, 2026): Polymarket.com is the international website; US residents must use the Polymarket US app; US users cannot deposit funds or place trades on the website. This page is not that product split. How to tell the website from the app is which URL or install is the US desk. Here, “website” means the public retail surface you click — the home screen, the opened ticket, Yes or No, the swipe — whether that surface is the named US app or a named .us browser page. Official Website vs App does not publish a US web trading desk.
A browser tab is still a surface, not the matching layer
Named browser uses only
Official How do I contact support? uses support@polymarket.us. Official docs live at docs.polymarket.us. Official Quickstart names a browser visit to polymarket.us/developer after you already have a verified app account. Those are published browser uses. None of them reprint a retail button labelled Open the CLOB. Opening a help article, a docs page, or the named developer portal is still a click on a public site. It is not the book that matches Yes against someone else’s resting size.
Official Place a Trade · clicks on the US surface · not a second cashier
What official help names as the matching layer
Official What is Polymarket US? and Official Prices & Market Data print central limit order book. Official FIX API Overview prints matching engine. Official Glossary names the order book. If those pages print CLOB, we use that word. If they print the long form, we reprint the long form. We do not invent a swipe chip.
Official US retail help names a central limit order book
Official What is Polymarket US + Prices & Market Data
Official What is Polymarket US: Polymarket US operates a central limit order book; your order is matched against another user’s order; the platform does not take the other side and does not set prices. Official Prices & Market Data: Polymarket US runs a central limit order book; bids are buy orders; asks (offers) are sell orders. That matching book is the layer under the swipe. CLOB is the common shorthand for that printed phrase. Official US retail help we checked prints the long form, not a CLOB chip.
Official US institutional help names a matching engine
Official FIX Overview + Order Entry
Official FIX Order Entry: the Exchange operates as a continuous central limit order book to match orders within the system according to price-time priority. Official FIX API Overview: when an instrument reaches Termination, the order book is removed from the matching engine. Those pages name the matching layer. They are institutional FIX docs, not a home-screen row. We will not paste Matching engine onto Official Place a Trade as if the swipe printed that menu.
Official US retail help does not reprint a CLOB tab
Action, not an invented header
Official Place a Trade, Official Browse Markets, Official Glossary, and Official US API Introduction do not reprint a retail column or tab labelled CLOB on the swipe we checked. Official Glossary names Order book as the list of bids and asks. Official US API Introduction names order-book endpoints, not a phone chip. We will not invent a CLOB button. The action is: after you swipe, the desk matches your order against another user’s resting size on that book. If the live card already says CLOB, Book, or Matching engine, follow that live word.
Official central limit order book · official matching engine · no invented CLOB tab
A click is not the book that matches it
Official Place a Trade is what you touch. Official What is Polymarket US is what matches after you confirm. See how to tell the website from the app if you wanted the .com-versus-US-app split. That is a different page. See prediction markets vs sportsbooks if you wanted a house line. There isn’t one.
You click the surface — the book matches the order
Two different layers
Official Place a Trade is the click path: home screen, tap, Yes or No, dollar amount, swipe. Official What is Polymarket US is what happens next: your order is matched against another user’s order on a central limit order book. Seeing a Yes button is not the same as seeing the book. The button is the public site. The match is the matching layer. We do not reprint a live fill.
The CLOB is not a second website you log into
Layer, not a URL
Official Website vs App names polymarket.com and the Polymarket US app as products. Official What is Polymarket US and Official Prices & Market Data name the central limit order book as how those products match. Official US API Introduction names api.polymarket.us and gateway.polymarket.us for orders and market data — field names and hosts, not a retail cashier. We will not invent a “go to the CLOB” URL those pages do not print. If you wanted a second deposit desk, you are on the wrong how-to.
International CLOB docs are not the US swipe
Official Website vs App
Public international developer docs at docs.polymarket.com name a CLOB API and a matching-engine page. Official Website vs App: US residents deposit and trade in the Polymarket US app; US users cannot deposit or trade on polymarket.com. We will not treat an international CLOB host as the US retail screen. How to read the order book is the sitting ladder on one US ticket. This page only splits the click surface from the matching layer.
Public clicks ≠ matching layer · CLOB is not a second login · follow live labels
How to tell the public site from the matching layer
-
Step 1
Confirm you need the US (QCEX) product — and that your state is open
This split is for a US adult looking at the public retail surface versus the book that matches orders, not for an international crypto account. Official What is Polymarket US?: the US product is fiat, CFTC-regulated, built for US residents, and it operates a central limit order book. As of our June 2026 check Polymarket was reported unavailable in Arizona, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, Nevada and Ohio. Florida is a green-light state. Confirm the US app still lets you reach account setup before you plan to send money. Age is 18+ with KYC — not the 21+ / 1-800-GAMBLER frame on our DFS pages.
-
Step 2
Treat the public US site as the clicks — home screen, ticket, Yes or No, swipe
Official Place a Trade: from the home screen, tap a market, select Yes or No, enter a dollar amount or tap Max, review, swipe up to confirm. Official Browse Markets: each card shows the question, current Yes and No prices, and a resolution date. Official Website vs App: US residents do that in the Polymarket US app, not on polymarket.com. Those printed actions are the public surface. They are not the matching layer. How to tell the website from the app is which install is the US desk. This step only names the clicks.
-
Step 3
Treat the CLOB as the matching layer if official help names that book
Official What is Polymarket US and Official Prices & Market Data print “central limit order book” and say your order is matched against another user. Official FIX Order Entry prints a continuous central limit order book that matches by price-time priority. Official FIX API Overview prints “matching engine.” Official Place a Trade does not reprint a retail header labelled CLOB on the swipe we checked. If the live card already uses CLOB, Book, or Matching engine, follow that live label. If no such word is there, the action is still: the desk matches your swipe against another user’s resting size. Do not invent a tab.
-
Step 4
Do not treat a docs URL, a CLOB host, or a help article as a second cashier
Official docs live at docs.polymarket.us. Official US API Introduction names api.polymarket.us and gateway.polymarket.us. International public docs name a CLOB API. Those are published hosts and field names. Official Website vs App still says US users cannot deposit or trade on polymarket.com, and Official Fund Your Account is the cashier how-to. Opening a matching-engine article does not fund an account. We will not invent a US Chrome CLOB desk those pages do not publish.
-
Step 5
Then leave website-versus-app, the order book, best bid and ask, and maker versus taker on their own pages
How to tell the website from the app is which URL or install is the US desk. How to read the order book is the public bids and asks sitting on one ticket. How to read best bid and ask is the inside quote you would hit. How to tell maker from taker is who added size versus who lifted it. This page only splits the public clicks from the matching layer. Event contracts can settle at zero. Trade only what you can afford to lose. Nothing here is investment advice.
This is not website versus app — and not the book how-to
Official Website vs App is polymarket.com versus the Polymarket US app. That product split lives on How to tell the website from the app on Polymarket (US). This page will not repeat the Apple-versus-Chrome walk, invent a US web cashier, or treat a browser tab as a second deposit.
The public ladder of bids and asks lives on How to read the order book on Polymarket. The inside quote you would actually hit lives on How to read best bid and ask on Polymarket. Who added size versus who lifted it is How to tell maker from taker. Your working list is How to read open orders. We do not clone those click paths.
Blocked and contested states
Reported unavailable as of June 2026: Arizona, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, Nevada and Ohio. That list is not a promise it stays still — litigation around sports event contracts in particular can narrow or shift access. If you are in a listed state, do not open the US app on the assumption the desk is open, and do not treat a matching-engine article as a workaround. If you are in Florida or another green-light state, still confirm the US app lets you finish account setup before you send money.
Age is 18+ with identity verification. That is a different gate from the 21+ / responsible-gambling frame on our DFS pages, because these are traded financial instruments. If you also want NFL DFS, start at the picks hub — those cashier rules do not carry over. Compare platforms on the prediction-markets hub.
What you will not get from this page
A dollar welcome match, a paste-this promo code, an invented CLOB / Matching engine tab Official Place a Trade does not print, a live bid, ask, last, or match count, a cloned website-versus-app / order-book / best-bid / maker-versus-taker / open-orders walkthrough, a US Chrome cashier, a newsletter form, or claim buttons for Kalshi, DraftKings, FanDuel, Underdog, Sleeper, PrizePicks, Hard Rock or BetRivers. We could not verify a standing official US welcome bonus on Polymarket’s own terms. Other publishers’ partner codes are theirs; we do not copy them. The honest user-facing line is still US access via CFTC-regulated QCEX — official US help names a central limit order book that matches your order against another user, official FIX pages name a matching engine, official US retail help does not reprint a CLOB chip we invent, the public site is the clicks, the CLOB is that matching layer and not a second login, and if the live card prints CLOB or Matching engine, use that live word.
