How to Read Volume on Polymarket (US 2026)

Volume is completed trades — then the book, not the stamp. Not a live figure, and not a liquidity formula we invent.

By Scott · Last verified August 8, 2026

Trading involves risk — a volume stamp is not a floor

Polymarket offers CFTC-regulated event contracts: financial/derivatives products, not sportsbook bets and not daily fantasy. You can lose money, including your entire stake. A volume figure is not a locked payout. Nothing on this page is investment advice. For adults 18+ with KYC. Sports markets are the most contested category; state availability can change. DFS pages on this site use a separate 21+ / 1-800-GAMBLER frame — do not mix the two.

Advertising disclosure: the claim button is an affiliate link. We may earn a commission if you sign up through it, at no extra cost to you. That never changes our ratings, and it is not a user bonus.

Who this guide is for

US adults who can already open a Polymarket ticket and now need to read the volume / liquidity numbers — where that stamp lives if official help names it, how volume differs from the live book, why high volume is not a lock, and why a thin market is easier to slip. This is not how to read the order book, not how to read Yes/No prices, not how to read price history, not how fees work, and not how to buy your first NFL ticket. Those pages are the ladder, the cents, the chart, the cost stack, and the first swipe. This page is the volume stamp on that ticket. Then we link out. Polymarket is the only live outbound on this page.

Where volume lives on a market page

Official Browse Markets is the home-screen tile. Official Place a Trade is tap to open the ticket. Hard rule: if those pages do not print a control name, we describe the action.

Open one market — look for volume on that ticket

Official Browse + Place a Trade

Official Browse Markets: find markets on the home screen; each tile shows the question, the current Yes and No prices, and a resolution date. Official Place a Trade: tap any market to open it. That opened ticket is where you look for a volume or activity figure if the live screen prints one. Official Browse Markets does not list Volume on the tile. We will not invent a home-screen “Volume” chip those pages do not print. If the sports desk is hidden where you live, stop.

US retail help does not reprint a Volume header

Action, not an invented tab

Official Place a Trade, Official Browse Markets, and Official Glossary do not reprint a retail column or tab labelled “Volume,” “Vol.,” or “Liquidity $” on the swipe we checked. We will not invent one. The action is: on that opened ticket, look at the volume / activity figure that sits with the market if the live app prints it. If the live control is labelled differently — or is missing — use the live screen, then read posted size on the book. Official Website vs App: US residents do that in the Polymarket US app.

Official API names volume — that is not a phone-chip menu

Official Markets API

Official Markets API names volume as total trading volume, plus windowed fields volume24hr, volume1wk, and volume1mo, and names liquidity as current market liquidity (also liquidityNum). Official Data Guide lists volume under market statistics. Those are published field names. Official Place a Trade does not reprint them as 24H / 1W / 1M chips. We will not paste an API window onto the US swipe as if the retail page printed that menu.

International “Vol.” — not confirmed on US docs

Public page · we say so

Public international market pages print a “Vol.” stamp next to a dollar figure. Official Website vs App: US residents browse and trade in the Polymarket US app, not on polymarket.com. We could not confirm that “Vol.” abbreviation, or a retail “All time” chip, on the US help we checked. We will not mash the international stamp onto the US app as a rule. If the US ticket and the international page disagree, trust the book in front of you.

Official US docs · open the ticket · no invented Volume tab · international Vol. flagged

Volume versus the live book

Official Glossary names size and liquidity. Official Liquidity is posted size now. Official Prices & Market Data is the BBO you can take. See how to read the order book for the ladder — this page does not repeat those teaching fills.

Volume is completed trades — history

What already printed

Official Markets API: volume is total trading volume — matches that already happened. Windowed fields (volume24hr, volume1wk, volume1mo) are the same idea over a published window, not a promise size is still sitting. Official How are Polymarket odds determined? is not this page; the point here is simpler: a volume stamp is a tape of fills. It is not the clip you can lift now.

Liquidity and size are the book right now

Official Glossary + Liquidity

Official Glossary: size is the number of contracts available to buy or sell at a given price; liquidity is how much of that size is there to trade at listed prices. Official Liquidity: that posted clip is what can trade at a level before the next price is touched. Official Prices & Market Data: a market order fills at the best available price on the other side right now — the BBO — if size is there. How to read the Polymarket order book is that ladder. This page does not reprint those teaching fills.

Do not mash the volume stamp into the ask

Two different clocks

Official Spreads: you buy at the ask. Official Prices & Market Data: a tight spread means the market is liquid; a wide spread means fewer people are trading. A large lifetime volume number can sit next to a thin best ask. Official Liquidity: treat the displayed price as dynamic, especially in live sports. Read posted size at the BBO first. Then glance at volume as history.

Official volume field · official size / liquidity · volume stamp ≠ the ask you will pay

Why high volume is not a lock

Official Price Impact is why a thin clip walks. Official Price Slippage is why a “decided” tape is still not settlement. A busy volume stamp does not refill the book.

A high volume stamp is not a floor

History, not a hold

Official How are Polymarket odds determined?: Polymarket US does not set prices; odds move when the next orders match. Official Liquidity: size can vanish late in a quarter, in overtime, after a score or injury, or when the result looks decided. A busy tape earlier today does not lock the ask you will pay, and it does not lock settlement. We do not reprint a live volume figure.

A thin book is easier to slip — even after a busy tape

Official Liquidity + Price Impact

Official Glossary: slippage is the gap between the price you expected and the price you received; price impact is how much limited liquidity moved that fill. Official Liquidity: when posted size is low, even a smaller clip can walk through several prices. Official Price Impact: quiet periods, pre-announcement windows, and near-deadline cancels thin depth. High lifetime volume does not refill those levels. The walk lives on the order-book how-to — this page only names why the thin book is the risk, not the volume stamp.

The market can still be open — and still settle at zero

Official Settlement + Slippage

Official Market Settlement and Official Prices & Market Data: a winning contract settles at $1.00 and a losing contract at $0.00. Official Price Slippage: markets stay open until the outcome is confirmed, even if the result looks certain; liquidity can thin on the side already priced as likely. A fat volume number on a “decided” ticket is not a sportsbook hold and not a reason to skip the book.

Official US docs · volume = history · thin book slips · no live $Vol

Do not invent a live number or a liquidity formula

Hard rule: if official US retail help names the control, we name it. If it does not, we describe the action. Official Markets API field names are not a phone menu. Official Volume Incentive Program is a rewards page — we flag it as that, not as a market-page equation.

We will not invent a live volume number

No live board

Official Markets API can name volume and liquidity. Those are field names, not tonight’s NFL tape we quote. Confirm whatever figure is on the ticket after KYC. We will not reprint a dollar Vol., a share count, or a “this market has traded $X.”

We will not invent a liquidity formula

No invented equation

Official Glossary defines liquidity as posted size at listed prices. Official Markets API names liquidity as current market liquidity and lets filters speak in USD. Official Liquidity’s teaching ladders are docs books, not a formula we turn into “liquidity = volume × spread.” We will not invent that equation, a shares-versus-dollars conversion, or a “safe size” threshold.

A volume-rewards page is not the stamp on the ticket

Official Volume Incentive Program · flagged

Official Volume Incentive Program is a published rewards pool on eligible contracts — taker-side notional in a stated price band, not a retail Volume chip and not a liquidity equation. We will not paste that program onto the market-page stamp as if Place a Trade printed it. If you wanted the cost stack, that is How Polymarket fees work.

No invented Volume tab · no invented equation · no live figure

How to read volume before you click

  1. Step 1

Open one market page and find the volume / activity figure on that ticket

Official Browse Markets: each market shows the question, the Yes and No prices, and a resolution date — not a Volume column. Official Place a Trade: tap any market to open it. Official Place a Trade does not reprint a retail tab labelled “Volume” or “Vol.” on the swipe we checked — we will not invent one. The action is: on the opened ticket, look at the volume / activity figure that sits with the market if the live screen prints one. Official Website vs App: US residents do that in the Polymarket US app. If the sports desk is hidden where you live, stop.

  2. Step 2

Read volume as completed trades — not the fill you will get next

Official Markets API names volume as total trading volume, plus windowed fields volume24hr, volume1wk, and volume1mo. Those are published history windows, not a confirmed retail chip menu. A volume stamp is matches that already printed. Official Prices & Market Data: a market order pays the best available price on the other side right now. We do not reprint a live figure.

  3. Step 3

Separate the volume stamp from posted size on the live book

Official Glossary: size is contracts at a price; liquidity is how much of that size is there to trade. Official Liquidity: that posted clip is the now-book. Official Spreads: you buy at the ask. Official Prices & Market Data: a tight spread means the market is liquid; a wide spread means fewer people are trading. A large volume number can sit next to a thin best ask. If the headline and the book disagree, the book in-app is the trade. How to read the Polymarket order book is that ladder — this page does not clone it.

  4. Step 4

Treat high volume as history, not a lock — a thin book is easier to slip

Official Liquidity: treat the displayed price as dynamic, especially in live sports — size can vanish late, in overtime, after a score or injury, or when the result looks decided. Official Price Impact: a thin clip can walk. Official Price Slippage: the market can stay open until the outcome is confirmed even when the result looks decided. Official Market Settlement: the side that wins still settles at $1.00 and the side that loses at $0.00. High volume is not a floor and not a sportsbook hold.

  5. Step 5

Do not invent a live number or a liquidity formula — then leave the other how-tos alone

We will not reprint a live Vol., invent a Volume tab, or write a liquidity equation those US pages do not print. Official Volume Incentive Program is a rewards page, not a market-page formula. How to read Yes/No prices is the cents. How to read price history is the chart. How to buy your first NFL ticket is the first swipe. How Polymarket fees work is the published cost stack. Event contracts can settle at zero. Trade only what you can afford to lose. Nothing here is investment advice.

Blocked and contested states

Reported unavailable as of June 2026: Arizona, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, Nevada and Ohio. That list is not a promise it stays still — litigation around sports event contracts in particular can narrow or shift access. If you are in a listed state, do not treat a volume stamp as a fill on the assumption the desk is open. If you are in Florida or another green-light state, still confirm the ticket appears and still accepts orders before you send money.

Age is 18+ with identity verification. That is a different gate from the 21+ / responsible-gambling frame on our DFS pages, because these are traded financial instruments. If you also want NFL DFS, start at the picks hub — those lineup rules do not carry over. Compare platforms on the prediction-markets hub.

What you will not get from this page

A dollar welcome match, a paste-this promo code, a live volume figure, an invented Volume tab or liquidity equation, a cloned order-book / Yes/No-price / price-history / fees / first-ticket walkthrough, or claim buttons for Kalshi, DraftKings, FanDuel, Underdog, Sleeper, PrizePicks, Hard Rock or BetRivers. We could not verify a standing official US welcome bonus on Polymarket’s own terms. Other publishers’ partner codes are theirs; we do not copy them. The honest user-facing line is still US access via CFTC-regulated QCEX — volume lives on the opened market page if the live screen prints it, the volume stamp is history, posted size is the trade, high volume is not a lock, a thin book is easier to slip, and anything those public pages do not print is not a label or a formula we invent. Frequently Asked Questions

Where is volume shown on a Polymarket market page?
Official Browse Markets and Official Place a Trade: open one market from the home screen — tap the ticket. Official Browse Markets lists the question, Yes and No prices, and a resolution date — not a Volume column. Official Place a Trade does not reprint a retail tab labelled “Volume” or “Vol.” on the swipe we checked; we describe the action instead of inventing that header. Look at the volume / activity figure on the opened ticket if the live screen prints one. Official Markets API names volume as total trading volume. Official Website vs App: US residents do that in the Polymarket US app. Public international pages print a “Vol.” stamp we could not confirm on US retail help. The only live claim on this page hops through /go/polymarket.
What is the difference between volume and the live book?
Volume is completed trading activity — history. Official Markets API names volume as total trading volume (and windowed volume24hr / volume1wk / volume1mo). Official Glossary: size is contracts available at a price; liquidity is how much of that size is there to trade. Official Prices & Market Data: the BBO is the tightest bid and ask right now, and a market order fills at the best available price on the other side if size is there. Official Spreads: you pay the ask to buy. A fat volume stamp is not the next fill if size has been pulled.
Why is high volume on Polymarket not a lock?
Because volume is a tape of matches that already happened, not a hold. Official How are Polymarket odds determined?: prices move when the next orders match, and Polymarket US does not set the price. Official Liquidity: size can be pulled, especially in live sports. Official Price Slippage: markets can stay open until the outcome is confirmed even if the result looks certain. Official Market Settlement: winning contracts settle at $1.00 and losing contracts at $0.00. A busy volume stamp is not a locked payout.
Why is a thin Polymarket market easier to slip?
Official Glossary: slippage is the difference between the price you expected and the price you received. Official Liquidity: when posted size is low, even a smaller clip can walk through several prices. Official Price Impact: quiet periods and near-deadline cancels thin depth. High lifetime volume does not put that size back on the book. How to read the Polymarket order book is the ladder. This page only tells you the volume stamp is not that ladder.
Do you publish live volume numbers or a liquidity formula?
No. Official Markets API names volume and liquidity as fields. Official Glossary defines liquidity as posted size at listed prices. We will not invent “liquidity = volume × spread,” a shares-versus-dollars conversion, or a live $Vol. Official Volume Incentive Program is a published rewards pool on eligible contracts — not a retail formula we paste onto the ticket. Confirm the live screen after KYC.
Is this the same as the order-book, Yes/No-price, price-history, fees, or first-ticket how-to?
No. The order-book how-to is bid versus ask and why a market walks. Yes/No prices is what the cents imply. Price history is the chart / last-trade tape. Fees are the published cost stack. First-ticket is the first moneyline swipe from a clean US account. This page is only volume and liquidity on the market page: where the stamp lives if official help names it, volume versus the live book, why high volume is not a lock, and why a thin market is easier to slip. We link out instead of cloning those click paths.
Can I read and trade Polymarket volume in every US state?
No. As of our June 2026 check Polymarket was reported unavailable in Arizona, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, Nevada and Ohio. Florida is a green-light state. Sports markets are the most legally contested category anywhere. Confirm the ticket still appears and still accepts orders before you treat a volume stamp as a fill.
Which claim button is actually live on this page?
Polymarket only. The claim button hops through /go/polymarket. There is no /go/kalshi, DraftKings, FanDuel, Underdog, Sleeper, PrizePicks, Hard Rock or BetRivers claim here. We do not invent tracking URLs.
Is there a Polymarket volume bonus or promo code on this page?
No. We do not publish a dollar welcome or a promo code. Official Volume Incentive Program is a published rewards page on eligible contracts — not a welcome match we copy onto this how-to. Partner codes that appear on other sites belong to those publishers. Confirm any live terms in the Polymarket US app. If you open Polymarket through our link we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you — that is not a user bonus.
Is reading Polymarket volume the same as reading a sportsbook handle or an NFL DFS slate?
No. A sportsbook posts a house line you take or leave. Daily fantasy is a state-licensed gambling product — often 21+, with a 1-800-GAMBLER frame. Event contracts are CFTC-regulated financial/derivatives products, typically 18+ with KYC. Other traders print this volume and post this book. A contract can settle at zero. There is no protected bonus floor.
