How to Read Average Entry on Polymarket (US 2026)

What you paid for the contracts you still hold — not last trade, and not a bank credit.

By Scott · Last verified August 8, 2026

Trading involves risk — average entry is not a floor

Polymarket offers CFTC-regulated event contracts: financial/derivatives products, not sportsbook bets and not daily fantasy. You can lose money, including your entire stake. A published average is not a locked payout, and a filled ticket can still settle at zero. Nothing on this page is investment advice. For adults 18+ with KYC. Sports markets are the most contested category; state availability can change. DFS pages on this site use a separate 21+ / 1-800-GAMBLER frame — do not mix the two.

Who this guide is for

US adults who already hold a Polymarket US position and now need to read average entry — what that published field means as cost basis, why a second fill changes it, and why it is not last trade or withdrawable cash. This is not how to read your Polymarket portfolio, not how to read Yes/No prices, not how to buy your first NFL ticket, not how fees work, and not how to sell a ticket early. Those pages are the whole Portfolio screen, the Yes/No tile, the first swipe, the published cost stack, and the bid-side exit. This page is the average on the filled row. Then we link out. Polymarket is the only live outbound here.

What average entry / cost basis means

Official Monitor Your Positions names average entry price on the open position. Official Glossary names the fill. Official Positions & Risk uses cost basis for the same idea on trader docs — not as a confirmed US retail header.

Average entry is what you paid for the contracts you still hold

Official Monitor Your Positions

Official Monitor Your Positions lists average entry price on the open position, next to contracts held, current market price, and potential payout. Official Glossary: an open position is the contracts you currently hold; a fill is when an order completes; execution price is the price of that fill. Average entry is your cost on the shares still sitting in Portfolio — not the headline Yes/No on the ticket, and not a number we reprint.

“Cost basis” is the same idea — not a confirmed retail header

Official Positions & Risk · flagged

Official Positions & Risk (trader / API docs) names Cost Basis as average entry price, total cost, and the input to unrealized P&L. That is the concept this page is reading. Official Monitor Your Positions, Official Place a Trade, and Official Glossary do not reprint a retail column literally labelled “Cost Basis.” We will not invent one. If the live Portfolio prints that phrase, use the live label. If it only prints average entry, that is the published US field.

One order can already average across more than one level

Official Glossary — fill price

Official Glossary: fill price is the average price you receive when your order fills across multiple levels. Official Prices & Market Data: a marketable buy pays the best available price on the other side if size is there. A single swipe that walks the book is already a blend. That blend is still your entry, not the last print someone else made on the same ticket.

Official average entry price · cost basis flagged as trader-guide · no live number

Where average entry lives

Hard rule: if official US help names a field, we name it. If a tab is not on those pages, we describe the action. Official Website vs App splits the international site from the US desk.

US app — open the Portfolio tab, then the filled row

Official Place a Trade

Official Place a Trade: after you swipe, open the Portfolio tab to track the position and market value. Official Website vs App: US residents deposit and trade in the Polymarket US app, not on polymarket.com. Official Monitor Your Positions is the filled ticket. If the live app labels the same screen Profile, Positions, or something else, use the live control — we will not invent a second header those pages do not print.

Published fields on that open position

Official Monitor Your Positions

Official Monitor Your Positions: the portfolio shows cash balance, open positions, and total account value. On each open position you can also see contracts held, average entry price, current market price, and potential payout. Those are the published names. We do not reprint a live dollar on any of them.

Not the market tape, and not an invented Avg column

Confirm the live row

Official US market-book stats name lastTradePx as the most recent match on that market — anyone’s print. Official Place a Trade does not reprint a retail column labelled “Avg,” “Avg | Cur.,” or “Cost Basis” on the swipe we checked. Legacy international help once printed Avg | Cur. We will not paste that header onto the US app. Find average entry on the open-position row Official Monitor Your Positions already names. If the live screen shortens the label, use the live text.

Official Place a Trade · Portfolio tab · no invented Avg / Cost Basis column

Why two fills change the average

Official Orders & Trading is the fill that opens or adds to a position. Official Glossary is execution price and fill price. We name the published pieces. We do not invent a weighted-average table.

A second fill is a second execution price

Official Glossary + Orders & Trading

Official Glossary: a fill completes an order, fully or in part; execution price is what that fill paid. Official Orders & Trading: once an order fills, you have a position; a later order can add to the contracts you hold. Two completed buys of the same Yes (or the same No) at two different execution prices are not the same print. The published average entry on that open position is the blend of what you paid for the contracts still there — not whichever clip printed last.

A walk on one order is already a blend

Official fill price

Official Glossary: fill price averages across the levels one order actually hit. Official Spreads: you buy at the ask. If the first clip at the best ask is smaller than your size, the rest of that same order can pay a worse ask. That is one swipe, two (or more) execution prices, and one fill-price average. It is still not the market’s lastTradePx.

We will not invent the weighted-average formula

Retail math not published

Official US Monitor Your Positions names the field. Official Positions & Risk names cost basis as average entry and total cost. Neither page prints a retail weighted-average equation, a teaching table of two ticket sizes, or a promise that fees sit inside or outside that average. Official Glossary separately names fees as a charge on executed orders. We will not invent the net. Confirm the live average entry after the second fill. Teaching cents on this page are not tonight’s book.

Official fill / fill price · second fill blends the row · no invented formula

Average entry is not last trade

Official market-book stats are where lastTradePx lives. Official Prices & Market Data and Official Spreads are the book you can take now. Those clocks are not your cost.

Last trade is a completed match — anyone’s

Official lastTradePx

Official US market-book stats name lastTradePx (and lastTradeQty): the price and quantity of the most recent trade on that market. Official How are Polymarket odds determined?: prices update whenever a buy or sell is matched. That tape is history for the whole book. It is not your average entry unless your fill happened to be that last match — and even then, a later print by someone else will move lastTradePx while your average stays put.

Current market is the book now — not what you paid

Official Monitor Your Positions

Official Monitor Your Positions sits current market price next to average entry. Official Place a Trade: positions update in real time as prices change. Official Prices & Market Data: a take-now order pays the BBO if size is there. Official Spreads: you buy at the ask and sell at the bid. The mark can sit above or below your average without either number being last trade.

A 40¢ last print is not a 40¢ average entry

Teaching fill · not live

A teaching last match at 40¢ is the last time any two orders crossed. Your average entry is the blend of your fills. You can hold a position whose average is away from that 40¢ print, and you can have no position at all while the tape still shows 40¢. We do not reprint a live last or a live average. How to read Yes/No prices is the tile. This page is only your cost on the row you hold.

Official lastTradePx · official current market · 40¢ teaching print · no live tape

Unmarked P&L is not cash

Official Check Your Balance is the cash rule. Official Can I sell early? and official Market Settlement are the two ways an open ticket becomes cash. Neither is the gap on the row.

The gap versus current market is a mark

Official docs do not name a P&L tab

Official Monitor Your Positions: current market sits next to average entry; total value is cash plus positions. Official Glossary: position value is the real-time dollar value of open positions. Official pages we checked do not print a retail column header literally labelled “P&L.” Official Positions & Risk says unrealized P&L is mark versus cost basis — that is trader-guide language, not a US retail tab we will invent. The action you are reading is the gap. It is not a debit-card credit.

Cash is the money not tied to the open ticket

Official Check Your Balance

Official Check Your Balance and Official Glossary: cash is the money not tied to any open position. Official Monitor Your Positions: cash is funds available to trade or withdraw. Official Check Your Balance: proceeds from sales or resolved markets return to cash automatically. Withdrawals come only from that cash — and only after the funding deposit has fully cleared. Average entry does not become withdrawable by sitting on the row.

A slightly-down mark right after a buy can be leftover dollars

Official whole-contracts FAQ

Official “Why does my position look down right after I buy?”: Polymarket US only fills whole contracts. Leftover dollars from a dollar-amount order return to cash, so Portfolio can show the position slightly down even though you did not take a market loss. That FAQ is not a live P&L we reprint, and it is not the same fact as a second fill rewriting average entry. Do not treat the leftover-dollars mark as realized cash gone.

Official US docs · no invented P&L column · mark ≠ withdraw

How to read average entry

  1. Step 1

Open the US Portfolio tab and find the open position — not the international website

Official Place a Trade: open the Portfolio tab to track the position and market value. Official Website vs App: US residents use the Polymarket US app; polymarket.com is a different product. Official Monitor Your Positions: look at the open-position row — contracts held, average entry price, current market price, potential payout. If a control is labelled differently in-app, use the live screen. If the sports desk is hidden where you live, stop. How to read your Polymarket portfolio is the whole screen. This page is only the average-entry field.

  2. Step 2

Read average entry as your cost — not last trade, not the Yes/No tile

Official Monitor Your Positions names average entry price on the contracts you hold. Official Glossary: execution price is what a fill paid; fill price averages one order across levels. Official US market-book stats name lastTradePx as the most recent match on the market — anyone’s print. Official Place a Trade does not reprint a retail “Cost Basis” or “Avg” column on the swipe we checked; we will not invent one. The tile how-to is How to read Yes/No prices. We do not reprint a live average.

  3. Step 3

If you filled more than once, expect the average to move — we will not invent the formula

Official Orders & Trading: a fill creates or changes a position. A second completed buy at a different execution price changes what you paid for the contracts still on the row. Official Glossary already averages one order that walks multiple levels. Official US retail pages do not print a weighted-average equation or say whether the trading fee sits inside that average. Confirm the live number after the second fill. How Polymarket fees work is the published cost stack — this page does not clone it.

  4. Step 4

Treat the gap versus current market as unmarked P&L — not cash

Official Monitor Your Positions sits current market next to average entry. Official Check Your Balance: cash is the money not tied to an open position, and withdrawals come only from cash. Official pages we checked do not print a retail “P&L” column. Official “Why does my position look down right after I buy?”: leftover dollars can make the row look slightly down without a market loss. A green or red gap is not a bank deposit. You sell while the market is open, or you wait for Clearing.

  5. Step 5

Stop — the first swipe, the book, fees, and selling early are later how-tos

Official Place a Trade: you can cash out anytime while the market is open or hold until it resolves. The first swipe lives on How to buy your first NFL ticket. The bid-side exit lives on How to sell a Polymarket ticket early. Fees are How Polymarket fees work. The Yes/No tile is How to read Yes/No prices. The rest of Portfolio is How to read your Polymarket portfolio. This page does not clone them. Event contracts can settle at zero. Trade only what you can afford to lose. Nothing here is investment advice.

Blocked and contested states

Reported unavailable as of June 2026: Arizona, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, Nevada and Ohio. That list is not a promise it stays still — litigation around sports event contracts in particular can narrow or shift access. If you are in a listed state, do not treat an average-entry row as money you can withdraw. If you are in Florida or another green-light state, still confirm Portfolio opens before you treat a figure as yours.

Age is 18+ with identity verification. That is a different gate from the 21+ / responsible-gambling frame on our DFS pages, because these are traded financial instruments. If you also want NFL DFS, start at the picks hub — those contest-score rules do not carry over. Compare platforms on the prediction-markets hub.

What you will not get from this page

A dollar welcome match, a paste-this promo code, a live average or last trade, an invented Cost Basis or P&L column, a weighted-average formula those US pages do not print, a cloned portfolio / Yes-No / first-ticket / fees / sell-early / order-book walkthrough, or claim buttons for Kalshi, DraftKings, FanDuel, Underdog, Sleeper, PrizePicks, Hard Rock or BetRivers. We could not verify a standing official US welcome bonus on Polymarket’s own terms. Other publishers’ partner codes are theirs; we do not copy them. The honest user-facing line is still US access via CFTC-regulated QCEX — open the Portfolio tab in the US app, average entry price is the published field on the open position, cost basis is the same idea on trader docs and not a confirmed retail header, two fills (or one order that walks levels) change that average, lastTradePx is not your cost, unmarked P&L is not cash, and anything those US pages do not print is not a label or a formula we invent. Frequently Asked Questions

What does average entry mean on a Polymarket position?
Official Monitor Your Positions lists average entry price on the open position — the contracts you hold — next to current market price and potential payout. Official Glossary: a fill completes an order; execution price is what that fill paid; fill price is the average when one order hits more than one level. That published average is your cost on the shares still in Portfolio. It is not last trade and not withdrawable cash. The only live claim on this page hops through /go/polymarket.
Is average entry the same as cost basis on Polymarket US?
Same idea, different pages. Official Positions & Risk (trader / API docs) names Cost Basis as average entry price, total cost, and the input to unrealized P&L. Official Monitor Your Positions, Official Place a Trade, and Official Glossary do not reprint a retail column labelled “Cost Basis.” We will not invent one. Read the live average-entry field Official Monitor Your Positions already names. If the live app prints “cost basis,” use that live label.
Where do I find average entry in the Polymarket US app?
Official Place a Trade: open the Portfolio tab to track the position. Official Monitor Your Positions: average entry price sits on the open-position row with contracts held, current market price, and potential payout. Official Website vs App: US residents do that in the Polymarket US app, not on polymarket.com. Official Place a Trade does not reprint a retail “Avg” or “Cost Basis” header on the swipe we checked. If the live row shortens the label, use the live text.
Why does a second fill change my average entry?
Because average entry is the blend of what you paid for the contracts you still hold, not the last clip. Official Glossary: each fill has an execution price; fill price already averages one order across multiple book levels. Official Orders & Trading: a later fill adds to the position. Official US retail pages do not print a weighted-average formula. We will not invent one. Confirm the live average after the second fill. Teaching cents on this page are not a live board.
Is average entry the same as last trade on Polymarket?
No. Official US market-book stats name lastTradePx as the most recent match on that market — anyone’s print. Official How are Polymarket odds determined?: that tape updates whenever orders match. Official Monitor Your Positions names average entry on your open position. A later print by someone else can move last trade while your average stays still. Current market is the book now. None of those three is automatically the others.
Is the unmarked P&L on screen withdrawable cash?
No. Official pages we checked do not print a retail column labelled “P&L.” Official Glossary names position value as the real-time dollar value of open positions. Official Monitor Your Positions adds current market next to average entry. Official Check Your Balance: withdrawals come only from cash — money not tied to an open position — and only after the funding deposit has fully cleared. Official Positions & Risk calls the gap unrealized P&L versus cost basis; that is not a bank deposit. You sell while the market is open, or you wait for Clearing.
Is this the same as the portfolio, Yes/No-price, first-ticket, fees, or sell-early how-to?
No. Portfolio is the whole screen: cash versus open position versus open order versus settled. Yes/No prices is what the cents on the ticket imply. First-ticket is the first marketable Yes/No from a clean US account. Fees are the published cost stack. Sell-early is the exchange exit of a filled share. This page is only average entry: what the published field means, why two fills change it, why it is not last trade, and why unmarked P&L is not cash. We link out instead of cloning those click paths.
Can I read average entry on Polymarket in every US state?
No. As of our June 2026 check Polymarket was reported unavailable in Arizona, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, Nevada and Ohio. Florida is a green-light state. Sports markets are the most legally contested category anywhere. Confirm the app still opens Portfolio before you treat an average-entry row as yours.
Which claim button is actually live on this page?
Polymarket only. The claim button hops through /go/polymarket. There is no /go/kalshi, DraftKings, FanDuel, Underdog, Sleeper, PrizePicks, Hard Rock or BetRivers claim here. We do not invent tracking URLs.
Is there a Polymarket average-entry bonus or promo code on this page?
No. We do not publish a dollar welcome or a promo code. Partner codes that appear on other sites belong to those publishers. Confirm any live terms in the Polymarket US app. If you open Polymarket through our link we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you — that is not a user bonus.
Is reading Polymarket average entry the same as reading an NFL DFS lineup cost?
No. Daily fantasy is a state-licensed gambling product — often 21+, with a 1-800-GAMBLER frame and (sometimes) a deposit-match rollover. Event contracts are CFTC-regulated financial/derivatives products, typically 18+ with KYC. A mark-to-market versus average entry is not a contest payout. A filled contract can still settle at zero. There is no protected bonus floor.

Advertising disclosure: Polymarket links are affiliate links — we may earn a commission at no cost to you, which never affects our ratings. Kalshi, DraftKings, FanDuel, Underdog, Sleeper, PrizePicks, Hard Rock and BetRivers have no live outbound claim on this page. Event contracts are CFTC-regulated financial products, not gambling. Trading involves risk and you can lose money, including your entire stake. Not investment advice. 18+. DFS pages on this site use a separate 21+ / 1-800-GAMBLER frame. Availability and terms can change — confirm current terms on Polymarket. Last verified August 8, 2026.
