How to Read a Share on Polymarket (US 2026)

One Yes or No share is one contract: $1 if that side wins, $0 if it loses. The price you pay is not that payout.

By Scott · Last verified August 8, 2026

Trading involves risk — one share is not a floor

Polymarket offers CFTC-regulated event contracts: financial/derivatives products, not sportsbook bets and not daily fantasy. You can lose money, including your entire stake. One Yes or No unit can still settle at zero. The price you paid is not a save. Nothing on this page is investment advice. For adults 18+ with KYC. Sports markets are the most contested category; state availability can change. DFS pages on this site use a separate 21+ / 1-800-GAMBLER frame — do not mix the two.

Advertising disclosure: the claim button is an affiliate link. We may earn a commission if you sign up through it, at no extra cost to you. That never changes our ratings, and it is not a user bonus.

Who this guide is for

US adults who can already see a Polymarket Yes or No and now need the share unit — what one contract is, how that unit is labeled if public US help or the live card shows it, and why the cents you pay are not the $1 payout. This is not how to set an order size, not how to set a limit price, not how to read implied probability, not how to tell cash from buying power, and not how to tell maker from taker. Those pages are the clip you type, the cents you will pay or sell at, the percent on those cents, withdrawable versus spendable cash, and the role after a clip sits or lifts. This page is the unit itself: one Yes or No, $1 if that side wins. Then we link out. Polymarket is the only live outbound on this page.

What one share is

Official Glossary calls the unit a contract: each one settles at $1.00 if that outcome occurs, or $0.00 if it does not. Official Market Settlement is the same $1 / $0 grade. Official What is Polymarket US? uses a 55¢ teaching fill — that is a docs book, not tonight’s board. See prediction markets vs sportsbooks if you wanted a house payout table. There isn’t one.

One Yes or No unit — $1 if that side wins, $0 if it loses

Official Glossary + Market Settlement

Official Glossary: a contract is an instance of an instrument; you trade contracts in quantities; each contract settles at $1.00 if the outcome occurs and $0.00 if it does not. Official Market Settlement and Official What is Polymarket US use the same $1 / $0 grade. Official Glossary Settlement is that final payout. One share, on this page, is that one unit — one Yes or one No — not a bundle, not a sportsbook parlay, and not a DFS contest lock. We do not reprint a live lot.

Official US help prints Contract — Share is not a confirmed retail header

Official Glossary + Liquidity

Official Glossary’s published word for the unit is Contract. Official Place a Trade and Official Order Placement do not reprint a retail field labelled Share, Shares, Contract, Contracts, or Qty on the swipe we checked. Official Liquidity teaching copy does print shares as the posted-size unit on the book. Official Fractional Contracts lives at a docs path that uses fractional-shares, but the page title and body say whole event contracts. We will not invent a Share chip. If the live US card already shows Share, Shares, Contract, or Contracts, use that live word. If it does not, the action is still one Yes or No unit that pays $1 if that side wins.

The price you pay is not the $1 payout

Official What is Polymarket US + Prices & Market Data

Official What is Polymarket US teaching fill: buy Yes at 55¢; if Yes wins the contract settles at $1.00; if Yes loses it settles at $0.00. Official Prices & Market Data uses the same map. The 55¢ is what you paid for that one unit. The $1.00 is what a winning unit is worth at settlement. Those are two different numbers. How to read implied probability is the cents-as-percent read. How to set a limit price is typing the cents. This page is only the unit itself.

Official Contract · $1 if that side wins · price ≠ payout

How a share is labeled

Hard rule: if official US help names a field, we name it. If a box is not on those pages, we describe the action. Official Website vs App splits the international site from the US desk. Official Liquidity is where teaching copy prints shares as posted size.

On the opened ticket — if public US help or the live card shows it

Action, not an invented header

Official Place a Trade: tap any market, then choose Yes or No. Official Browse Markets: each market shows the question and the Yes and No prices. Those pages do not reprint a retail header labelled Share on the swipe we checked. Official Glossary already names the unit: a contract. If the live US card shows Share, Shares, Contract, Contracts, Qty, or Position, use that live word for the one-unit read. If there is no header, treat the Yes or No you picked as one unit that grades at $1 or $0.

US app — not polymarket.com

Official Website vs App

Official Website vs App: US residents deposit and trade in the Polymarket US app, not on the international website. Official What is Polymarket US? is the CFTC-regulated designated contract market this record belongs to. International help that talks about outcome tokens or crypto shares is a different product. If a control is labelled differently in-app, follow the live screen. If the sports desk is hidden where you live, stop.

Liquidity “shares” are posted depth — not a Share tab we will paste on the swipe

Official Liquidity

Official Liquidity teaching tables print shares next to a cents level — that is how much size is sitting on the book at that price, not a retail Share chip on the Yes/No swipe. Official Glossary Size is the number of contracts available to buy or sell at a given price. How to set an order size is typing your clip. How to read liquidity is the book those other clips sit on. This page does not clone either. We do not reprint a live share count.

No invented Share tab · Contract is the glossary word · follow the live card

Price is not the payout

Official Prices & Market Data is the $0-to-$1 price scale. Official Market Settlement is the $1.00 or $0.00 grade after resolution. Official Fractional Contracts is why the US desk fills whole units only. We name those clocks. We do not reprint a live dollar.

Cents are the entry — $1.00 is the winning grade

Official Prices & Market Data

Official Prices & Market Data: every contract is priced between $0 and $1. That displayed price is what other traders are bidding or asking for one unit right now. Official Market Settlement: when the market resolves, a winning contract settles at $1.00 and a losing contract at $0.00. Paying 40¢ for a Yes does not make the payout 40¢. If Yes wins, that one unit is still $1.00 on the published grade. If Yes loses, it is still $0.00. We will not paste a live cents print onto this page.

Some tickets can print a different settlement description — read that ticket

Official Market Settlement

Official Market Settlement: some markets include predefined settlement terms that differ from the standard $1/$0 structure; when that applies, Polymarket Clearing follows the instructions in the market’s Settlement Description. We will not invent when that happens or what the other number is. If the live card shows Settlement Description, Rules, or a resolution source that names a different grade, follow that ticket. How to read a resolution source is that other page. This page is the standard one-unit $1 / $0 read.

This is not a sportsbook payout table and not a DFS prize

Official What is Polymarket US

Official What is Polymarket US: Polymarket US runs a central limit order book; it does not take the other side and does not set prices. A sportsbook ticket pays a house number you take or leave. A daily-fantasy lineup pays a contest prize table. One Polymarket Yes or No unit pays $1 if that printed side wins — or $0 if it does not — on the published grade. See prediction markets vs sportsbooks if you wanted that parked hold. There isn’t one. Nothing here is sportsbook advice or investment advice.

Official 55¢ teaching fill · settlement $1 or $0 · not a sportsbook table

How to read one share before you click

  1. Step 1

Open one market on the US app and pick Yes or No — that is the side

Official Place a Trade: from the home screen, tap any market to open it, then choose Yes or No. Official Browse Markets: each market shows the question and the Yes and No prices. Official Website vs App: US residents use the Polymarket US app, not polymarket.com. If the sports desk is hidden where you live, stop. This page assumes you are reading what one unit of that side is — not typing how many, not setting a limit, and not converting the cents into a percent.

  2. Step 2

Find the live unit word if public help or the card shows it — do not invent Share

Official Glossary’s published word is Contract. Official Place a Trade does not reprint a retail field labelled Share, Shares, Contract, or Qty on the swipe we checked. Official Liquidity teaching copy does print shares as posted size on the book. If the live US card already shows Share, Shares, Contract, or Contracts, use that live word. If there is no header, treat the Yes or No you picked as one unit. We will not paste a Share chip onto the phone.

  3. Step 3

Read one unit as $1 if that side wins — $0 if it loses

Official Glossary: each contract settles at $1.00 if the outcome occurs and $0.00 if it does not. Official Market Settlement: winning contracts settle at $1.00; losing contracts settle at $0.00. Official What is Polymarket US: contracts settle at $1 if the outcome happens, or $0 if it does not. One Yes share is $1 if Yes wins. One No share is $1 if No wins. That is the unit. It is not a sportsbook payout and not a contest prize.

  4. Step 4

Do not mix the price you pay with that $1 grade

Official What is Polymarket US teaching fill is a 55¢ Yes that settles at $1.00 if Yes happens — that is a docs book, not tonight’s board. Official Prices & Market Data: the displayed price sits between $0 and $1; settlement is still $1.00 or $0.00. The cents are what you pay (or receive) for one unit. The $1.00 is what a winning unit is worth. How to read implied probability is the percent on those cents. How to set a limit price is typing the cents. Leave both alone on this walk.

  5. Step 5

Stop — size, limit, implied probability, and cash vs buying power are later how-tos

How to set an order size is how many of these units one new order asks for. How to set a limit price is the cents you will pay or sell at. How to read implied probability is why those cents read as a percent. How to tell cash from buying power is withdrawable versus spendable cash after you already hold units. Official Market Settlement: Portfolio updates when settlement completes — that live list is a later page. Event contracts can settle at zero. Trade only what you can afford to lose. Nothing here is investment advice.

This is not order size, a limit, or a percent

Official Glossary: you trade contracts in quantities. That clip — how many units one new order asks for — lives on How to set an order size on Polymarket. Official Orders & Trading: you set a price on a limit. That cents box lives on How to set a limit price on Polymarket. Official Prices & Market Data: the cents also read as a chance. That percent lives on How to read implied probability on Polymarket. Official Check Your Balance is cash versus buying power. That split lives on How to tell cash from buying power on Polymarket. This page will not invent a US Share chip, and it will not reprint a live lot count.

Copying a ticket so someone else opens the same sentence is How to share a market on Polymarket. The tile and the book are How to read Yes/No prices on Polymarket. The role after a clip sits or lifts is How to tell maker from taker on Polymarket. We do not clone those pages.

Blocked and contested states

Reported unavailable as of June 2026: Arizona, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, Nevada and Ohio. That list is not a promise it stays still — litigation around sports event contracts in particular can narrow or shift access. If you are in a listed state, do not treat a Yes or No unit as money you can buy. If you are in Florida or another green-light state, still confirm the ticket appears and still shows a Yes or No before you send size.

Age is 18+ with identity verification. That is a different gate from the 21+ / responsible-gambling frame on our DFS pages, because these are traded financial instruments. If you also want NFL DFS, start at the picks hub — those contest-lock rules do not carry over. Compare platforms on the prediction-markets hub.

What you will not get from this page

A dollar welcome match, a paste-this promo code, a live bid, ask, or lot count, an invented Share / Shares field the official US swipe pages do not print, a cloned order-size / limit-price / implied-probability / cash-vs-buying-power / maker-from-taker walkthrough, a newsletter form, or claim buttons for Kalshi, DraftKings, FanDuel, Underdog, Sleeper, PrizePicks, Hard Rock or BetRivers. We could not verify a standing official US welcome bonus on Polymarket’s own terms. Other publishers’ partner codes are theirs; we do not copy them. The honest user-facing line is still US access via CFTC-regulated QCEX — official Glossary calls the unit a contract that settles at $1.00 if that outcome occurs or $0.00 if it does not, official Place a Trade does not reprint a Share field on the swipe we checked, official Liquidity teaching copy prints shares as posted size, official What is Polymarket US says the price you pay is not that $1 grade, this is not sportsbook or investment advice, and anything those public pages do not print is not a label or a number we invent. Frequently Asked Questions

What is one Yes/No share on Polymarket US?
Official Glossary: you trade contracts in quantities; each contract settles at $1.00 if that outcome occurs and $0.00 if it does not. Official Market Settlement uses the same $1 / $0 grade. One share, on this page, is that one Yes or No unit. Official Glossary’s published word is Contract. Official Liquidity teaching copy prints shares as posted size. If the live card shows Share or Contract, use that live word. The only live claim on this page hops through /go/polymarket.
Does Polymarket US call it a share or a contract?
Official Glossary reprints Contract. Official Place a Trade does not reprint a retail header labelled Share on the swipe we checked. Official Liquidity teaching tables do print shares. Official Fractional Contracts uses a docs path with fractional-shares but the page body says whole event contracts. We will not invent a Share chip. If public US help or the live card already shows Share, Shares, Contract, or Contracts, follow that live label. If it does not, describe the action: one Yes or No unit that pays $1 if that side wins.
Is the price of a share the same as the payout?
No. Official Prices & Market Data: a contract is priced between $0 and $1. Official What is Polymarket US teaching fill: buy Yes at 55¢; if Yes wins it settles at $1.00; if Yes loses it settles at $0.00. The cents are the entry. The $1.00 is the winning grade. How to read implied probability is the cents-as-percent read. This page is only the unit.
If I buy Yes, when do I get $1?
Official Glossary Long position: you pay the current price per contract and receive $1.00 per contract if the outcome happens. Official Market Settlement: winning contracts settle at $1.00 after the market resolves; losing contracts settle at $0.00. Official What is Polymarket US: you can also sell before settlement. We do not reprint a live Yes, and we will not invent a clock those pages do not print.
If I buy No, is that still a $1 unit?
Yes — on the published grade, one No unit pays $1.00 if No is the winning side and $0.00 if it is not. Official Place a Trade: tap No if you think the printed event does not happen. Official Market Settlement still grades winning contracts at $1.00 and losing contracts at $0.00. Official Orders & Trading: the printed price refers to the YES side — that price-display rule lives on the limit-price and Yes/No-price how-tos. This page only names the No unit’s $1 / $0 grade.
Is this the same as setting an order size, a limit price, implied probability, or cash vs buying power?
No. Order size is how many of these units one new order asks for. Limit price is the cents you will pay or sell at. Implied probability is why those cents read as a percent. Cash vs buying power is what you can withdraw versus what you can still put on a new ticket. This page is only what one Yes or No unit is — $1 if that side wins. We link out instead of cloning those click paths.
Is this the same as sharing a market, reading Yes/No prices, or telling maker from taker?
No. How to share a market is copy or send a ticket so someone else opens the same sentence. How to read Yes/No prices is the tile, last versus the book, and why two sides are not always a clean $1 after fees. Maker versus taker names the role after a clip sits or lifts. This page is the unit itself. We do not clone those walks.
Is a Polymarket share the same as a sportsbook ticket or a DFS entry?
No. Official What is Polymarket US / Official Prices & Market Data: Polymarket US runs a central limit order book. Other traders took the other side. A sportsbook ticket is a house number you take or leave. Daily fantasy is a state-licensed gambling product — often 21+, with a 1-800-GAMBLER frame. Event contracts are CFTC-regulated financial/derivatives products, typically 18+ with KYC. One unit can still settle at zero. There is no protected bonus floor. Nothing here is sportsbook or investment advice.
Can I read or trade a Polymarket share in every US state?
No. As of our June 2026 check Polymarket was reported unavailable in Arizona, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, Nevada and Ohio. Florida is a green-light state. Sports markets are the most legally contested category anywhere. Confirm the ticket still appears and still shows a Yes or No unit before you treat it as yours.
Which claim button is actually live on this page?
Polymarket only. The claim button hops through /go/polymarket. There is no /go/kalshi, DraftKings, FanDuel, Underdog, Sleeper, PrizePicks, Hard Rock or BetRivers claim here. We do not invent tracking URLs.
Is there a Polymarket share bonus or promo code on this page?
No. We do not publish a dollar welcome or a promo code. Partner codes that appear on other sites belong to those publishers. Confirm any live terms in the Polymarket US app. If you open Polymarket through our link we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you — that is not a user bonus.
Do some markets settle at something other than $1 / $0?
Official Market Settlement: some markets include predefined settlement terms that differ from the standard $1/$0 structure; when that applies, follow the market’s Settlement Description. We will not invent that other number. If the live card shows it, read that ticket. How to read a resolution source is the rules-source walk. This page is the standard one-unit $1 / $0 read.
