Who this guide is for
US adults who already know they want the compliant 2026 on-ramp and now need the identity-verification step the sign-up how-to names and stops on. Polymarket re-entered the US in late 2025 by acquiring QCEX, a CFTC-licensed designated contract market and clearinghouse, and began onboarding US traders in December 2025. We cover that flow from Florida, which is a green-light state. The full product review lives on our Polymarket review. If you are racing NFL Week 1, use the Week 1 prediction-markets checklist so KYC is done before Wednesday, September 9.
The US KYC sequence
-
Step 1
Confirm your state is not blocked
US access is back, but it is not universal. As of our June 2026 check Polymarket was reported unavailable in Arizona, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, Nevada and Ohio. Florida is a green-light state. Sports markets are the most contested category anywhere. Confirm your state in-app before you start identity verification — the blocked list can move.
-
Step 2
Open the US (QCEX) entrance through a tracked link
Use the claim button on this page so you enter the compliant US flow. Polymarket returned to the US in December 2025 via its CFTC-licensed QCEX acquisition. That is the legal on-ramp for US residents — not the old offshore, no-KYC wallet route. The sign-up sequence lives on our US sign-up how-to; this page is the ID and hold-time walkthrough.
-
Step 3
Create the account and enter the details that match your ID
Official US docs say you can start with Google or Apple ID, then choose a username and provide your full legal name, date of birth, and residential address. Use the name and address on your government ID. Mismatches are a common reason an account goes under review.
-
Step 4
Submit the ID / selfie check if the app asks
Official US docs say most users are verified automatically. If additional verification is needed, you may be asked to upload a government-issued ID and complete a selfie check. Have a current driver’s license, state ID, or passport ready, in good light, with no glare. Reviews and hold times are set by Polymarket, not by us.
-
Step 5
Wait out the hold — then fund only after KYC clears
Official US docs say most verifications complete instantly. If manual review is required, processing can take up to 3–5 business days. You are notified in-app and by email. You must complete KYC before you can deposit or trade. Kickoff-night queues are the failure point — finish this before Wednesday, September 9.
What to have ready
Official Polymarket US docs describe a short identity file: full legal name, date of birth, and residential address. Most users clear automatically. If the app asks for more, you upload a government-issued ID and complete a selfie check. Use the same name that will appear on the bank, debit card, or wire you fund with — deposits must come from an account in your own name. We do not invent extra document lists beyond what those docs ask for.
If your account is marked under review, official docs cite an information mismatch, similar details on another account, or extra KYC / AML checks. Do not open a second account to “speed it up.” Wait for the in-app or email notice. The account activates automatically when verification finishes.
Hold times — plan around them
Most verifications are instant. Manual review can take up to 3–5 business days per official US docs. That window is why the Week 1 checklist tells you to finish KYC before Wednesday, September 9 — not on kickoff night. If you are still in review at 8:20 p.m. ET on September 9, you are watching, not trading. After KYC clears, funding is a separate conversion step — see How to deposit on Polymarket (US).
Blocked and contested states
Reported unavailable as of June 2026: Arizona, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, Nevada and Ohio. That list is not a promise it stays still — litigation around sports event contracts in particular can narrow or shift access. If you are in a listed state, do not start KYC on the assumption the desk is open. If you are in Florida or another green-light state, still confirm the app lets you finish identity verification before you send money.
Age is 18+ with identity verification. That is a different gate from the 21+ / responsible-gambling frame on our DFS pages, because these are traded financial instruments. Compare platforms on the prediction-markets hub and the seasonal NFL Prediction Markets 2026 guide.
What you will not get from this page
A dollar welcome match, a paste-this promo code, or a guaranteed first-trade credit. We could not verify a standing official US welcome bonus on Polymarket’s own terms. Other publishers’ partner codes are theirs; we do not copy them. The honest user-facing line is still US access via CFTC-regulated QCEX — complete KYC, then confirm live deposit terms in-app. Last verified August 8, 2026.
Polymarket also runs a separate in-app referral that can share trading fees with qualifying traders. That program is between you and Polymarket. We do not treat it as a sign-up offer.
