How to Sell a Filled Position on Polymarket (US 2026)

Close the Yes or No you already own. A sale is a new trade — not a cancel, and not a sportsbook cash-out.

By Scott · Last verified August 8, 2026

Trading involves risk — a sale is not a floor

Polymarket offers CFTC-regulated event contracts: financial/derivatives products, not sportsbook bets and not daily fantasy. You can lose money, including your entire stake. Selling a filled ticket locks the fill the book will pay, and holding instead can still settle at zero. Nothing on this page is investment advice. For adults 18+ with KYC. Sports markets are the most contested category; state availability can change. DFS pages on this site use a separate 21+ / 1-800-GAMBLER frame — do not mix the two.

Advertising disclosure: the claim button is an affiliate link. We may earn a commission if you sign up through it, at no extra cost to you. That never changes our ratings, and it is not a user bonus.

Who this guide is for

US adults who already own a filled Yes or No and now need to sell or close that ticket — where the row lives if public US help or the live card shows it, how to exit those shares, and why that click is a new trade, not canceling a resting bid. This is not how to cancel an open order, not how to read open orders, not how to read a partial fill, and not how to tell cash from buying power. Those pages are the unfilled undo, the working-order list, the middle state, and the withdrawable-versus-tied-up split. This page is the exit on shares you already hold. Then we link out. Polymarket is the only live outbound on this page.

What you are selling

Official Glossary splits open position from open order. Official Orders & Trading is the ticket after it matches. Official Can I sell early? is the close. Do not mash them into one “undo my money” button. See prediction markets vs sportsbooks if you wanted a house cash-out. There isn’t one.

A filled Yes or No — contracts you already hold

Official Glossary + Orders & Trading

Official Glossary: a fill is when your order completes, fully or partially; an open position is the contracts you currently hold. Official Orders & Trading: once the order is Filled, you have a position. This page is that ticket. You already own the shares. You are not pulling unfilled size off the book.

Not an open order — that clip never matched

Official Glossary + Fee Schedule FAQ

Official Glossary: an open order is waiting on the book to be filled. Official Orders & Trading: after Pending, that resting state is Open. Official Fee Schedule FAQ: canceled, expired, or rejected orders are not charged because no trade executed. Canceling that remainder does not sell a Yes/No you own. How to cancel an open order is that undo. This page does not clone it.

A sale closes the position — official name is Closed position

Official Glossary + Can I sell early?

Official Glossary: a closed position is one you no longer hold because you sold it or the market resolved. Official Can I sell early?: you can close at any time and do not have to wait for resolution; proceeds are added immediately to your cash balance. Official Check Your Balance: those proceeds return to cash automatically. That is cash on the exchange, not a bank deposit.

Official Filled ≠ Open · sell ≠ cancel · proceeds → cash

Where that filled position lives

Hard rule: if official help names a screen, we name it. If the US pages do not reprint that label, we describe the action. Official Website vs App splits the international site from the US desk.

Portfolio — open positions, if public US help or the live card shows it

Official Monitor Your Positions + Place a Trade

Official Place a Trade: after a swipe, open the Portfolio tab to track the position and market value. Official Monitor Your Positions: that screen shows cash balance, open positions, and total account value, plus contracts held, average entry, current market price, and potential payout. That filled row is the ticket this page is after — not a working-order clip. We do not reprint a live mark.

The same market card you already own

Describe the action

Official Place a Trade: tap any market to open it. If you still have the event card, the live ticket can show the side you hold. Official Monitor Your Positions does not reprint a “Filled position” header on that card. We will not invent one. The action is: open the market you already filled, then confirm the live row is contracts you hold — not leftover size still waiting.

US app — not polymarket.com

Official Website vs App

Official Website vs App: US residents deposit and trade in the Polymarket US app, not on polymarket.com. Official What is Polymarket US? is the CFTC-regulated designated contract market. If the live US Portfolio or the live card already prints Open positions, Positions, or another filled-ticket label, use that live word. If a control is labelled differently, follow the live screen — we will not invent a second header.

Official Portfolio tab · open positions · no invented Sell column

A sale is a new trade — not a cancel

Official Orders & Trading is the opposite action. Official Fee Schedule FAQ is why a sale can charge and a cancel does not. Official Check Your Balance is cash after the fill leaves. We name those facts. We do not reprint a live bid, and we do not walk a bank off-ramp.

Closing is the opposite trade — not a cancel

Official Orders & Trading

Official Orders & Trading: close a long Yes by selling Yes; close a short by buying Yes back. That is a new order against the book. Official Can I sell early? names the same idea as closing a position. Official Place a Trade names cash out while the market is open. None of those published sentences is “hit Cancel on the fill.” A cancel only pulls unfilled size.

A sale can charge a trading fee — a cancel does not

Official Fee Schedule FAQ

Official Fee Schedule FAQ: fees apply only when a trade executes; canceled, expired, or rejected orders are not charged. Selling shares you already hold is a trade. Pulling a resting bid is not. We will not invent a percent or reprint a live dollar. How Polymarket fees work is the published formula. This page does not clone it.

Proceeds hit cash — they do not leave the desk

Official Can I sell early? + Check Your Balance

Official Can I sell early?: sale proceeds are added immediately to your cash balance. Official Check Your Balance: withdrawals come only from that cash, and only after the funding deposit has fully cleared. Official Glossary: cash balance is funds not tied to open positions; buying power is cash available to open new positions after margin. How to tell cash from buying power is that split. This page stops at the exchange exit.

Official opposite trade · fee on execute · cash on the exchange

How to sell that one filled position

  1. Step 1

Confirm the row is a filled Yes/No — not leftover size still sitting

Official Glossary: an open position is contracts you already hold; an open order is waiting on the book. Official Orders & Trading: Filled means you have a position. If the clip never matched, cancel will not sell it — that undo is How to cancel an open order. If only part matched, How to read a partial fill names the split: the matched slice is already a position; the leftover is still working. This page assumes you already own the shares.

  2. Step 2

Open Portfolio, or the market you already hold, on the US app

Official Place a Trade: open the Portfolio tab to track the position and market value. Official Monitor Your Positions: look for open positions next to cash and total value. Official Website vs App: US residents trade in the Polymarket US app, not on polymarket.com. Official US pages do not reprint a “Sell filled position” tab — confirm the live screen instead of hunting for a header we invent. If the sports desk is hidden where you live, stop.

  3. Step 3

Find that one filled ticket — then stop if it is a working order or the public book

If public US help or the live Portfolio / card shows Open positions, pick the Yes or No you meant. Official Monitor Your Positions names contracts held, average entry, current market, and potential payout on that row. Official Glossary: the order book is everyone else’s bids and asks. Do not tap the public ladder as if it were your ticket, and do not tap a resting unfilled clip as if it were already yours. We will not invent a retail column those US pages do not print.

  4. Step 4

Sell or close that one position — use the live control on that ticket

Official Can I sell early?: you can close at any time while the market is open. Official Orders & Trading: sell Yes to close a long; buy Yes back to close a short. Official Place a Trade: cash out anytime while the market is open, or hold until it resolves. Official Place a Trade does not reprint a Sell, Close, or Cash out chip on the first-buy swipe we checked. If the live US card already shows Sell, Close, Cash out, or another exit on the filled row, use that live label. We will not invent a US button. Official Fee Schedule FAQ: a sale that executes is a trade. Official Orders & Trading: you do not have to wait for settlement.

  5. Step 5

Treat proceeds as cash on the exchange — then leave cancel, leftover, and buying power on their own pages

Official Can I sell early? and Official Check Your Balance: sale proceeds hit cash immediately. That is not a bank credit and not a sportsbook cash-out. How to cancel an open order is the unfilled undo. How to read open orders is the working-order list. How to read a partial fill is the middle state. How to tell cash from buying power is what you can still spend versus what can leave after the deposit clears. Event contracts can settle at zero. Trade only what you can afford to lose. Nothing here is investment advice.

This is not canceling a resting bid — and not a bank withdraw

Official Glossary: an open order is still waiting. Official Fee Schedule FAQ: pulling that remainder is not a trade. If the row never matched, leave this page and use How to cancel an open order on Polymarket. This page will not walk the red x, invent a US Cancel chip, or tell you a live leftover count.

Finding the working-order list is How to read open orders on Polymarket. The middle state is How to read a partial fill on Polymarket. What you can still spend versus what can leave after a deposit clears is How to tell cash from buying power. We do not clone those pages.

Blocked and contested states

Reported unavailable as of June 2026: Arizona, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, Nevada and Ohio. That list is not a promise it stays still — litigation around sports event contracts in particular can narrow or shift access. If you are in a listed state, do not treat a filled Yes/No as size you can still sell. If you are in Florida or another green-light state, still confirm the Portfolio row (or the ticket on that market) appears and still accepts an exit before you treat a sale as yours.

Age is 18+ with identity verification. That is a different gate from the 21+ / responsible-gambling frame on our DFS pages, because these are traded financial instruments. If you also want NFL DFS, start at the picks hub — those contest-cash rules do not carry over. Compare platforms on the prediction-markets hub.

What you will not get from this page

A dollar welcome match, a paste-this promo code, a live bid, ask, or personal position count, an invented US Sell / Close / Cash out chip the official Place a Trade page does not print, a cloned cancel-open-order / open-orders / partial-fill / cash-versus-buying-power walkthrough, a newsletter form, or claim buttons for Kalshi, DraftKings, FanDuel, Underdog, Sleeper, PrizePicks, Hard Rock or BetRivers. We could not verify a standing official US welcome bonus on Polymarket’s own terms. Other publishers’ partner codes are theirs; we do not copy them. The honest user-facing line is still US access via CFTC-regulated QCEX — a filled position is a Yes/No you already own, official Monitor Your Positions names that row under open positions, official Can I sell early? lets you close while the market is open, official Orders & Trading closes a long by selling Yes, official Place a Trade does not reprint a Sell chip so we describe the action, a sale is a new trade and not a cancel, this is not sportsbook or investment advice, and anything those public pages do not print is not a label or a number we invent. Frequently Asked Questions

How do I sell a filled Yes or No on Polymarket?
Find the filled ticket, then use the live exit on that row. Official Place a Trade: open the Portfolio tab. Official Monitor Your Positions: that screen names open positions — contracts held, average entry, current market, potential payout. Official Can I sell early?: you can close at any time while the market is open; proceeds go to cash immediately. Official Orders & Trading: sell Yes to close a long; buy Yes back to close a short. Official Place a Trade does not reprint a Sell chip on the first-buy swipe — confirm the filled row in the US app and follow the live label. The only live claim on this page hops through /go/polymarket.
Where does a filled position live if public US help or the live card shows it?
Official Place a Trade sends you to the Portfolio tab after you swipe. Official Monitor Your Positions names cash, open positions, and total account value. If the live US Portfolio or the live market card already shows that filled Yes/No, use that list. Official Website vs App: do this in the Polymarket US app, not on polymarket.com. Official US pages do not reprint a “Filled position” header — we describe the action instead of inventing one. How to read open orders is the working-order locator. This page is the exit on shares you already own.
Is selling a filled position the same as canceling an open order?
No. Official Glossary: an open order is waiting to be filled; an open position is the contracts you currently hold. Official Orders & Trading: once the order is Filled, you have a position. Official Can I sell early?: closing that ticket is a sale while the market is still open. Official Fee Schedule FAQ: a cancel is not charged because no trade executed; a sale that matches is a trade. Canceling leftover size does not sell shares you already own.
Does the Polymarket US app print a Sell, Close, or Cash out button?
Official Place a Trade uses cash out as published copy for exiting while the market is open. Official Can I sell early? uses close. Official Orders & Trading uses sell Yes / buy Yes back. Official Place a Trade does not reprint a retail Sell, Close, or Cash out chip on the first-buy swipe we checked. Official Monitor Your Positions does not reprint a Sell column. We will not invent a US button. The action is: find the filled row on the US app, then use whatever live exit that card prints on that ticket.
What happens to my money when I sell?
Official Can I sell early?: proceeds are added immediately to your cash balance. Official Check Your Balance: sale proceeds return to cash automatically; withdrawals come only from that cash, and only after the funding deposit has fully cleared. Official Glossary: cash is not tied to an open position; buying power is what you can still spend after margin. A sale is not a debit, ACH, or wire. How to tell cash from buying power is that split. We do not reprint a live fill.
What if the order is only partially filled?
Official Orders & Trading: Partially filled means some size matched and the rest is still open. Official Glossary: the matched slice is a fill; an open position is the contracts you hold. You can sell the contracts that already filled. Canceling the leftover takes only the waiting size off the book — it does not sell the matched slice. How to read a partial fill names that split. This page does not clone it.
Is this the same as canceling an open order, reading open orders, a partial fill, or cash versus buying power?
No. Cancel open order is the undo on unfilled size. Open orders is find-and-read on the working list. Partial fill is the middle state: some matched, leftover still open. Cash versus buying power is what you can withdraw versus what is still tied up. This page is only how to sell or close one filled Yes/No: where that ticket lives if public help or the live card shows it, that a sale is a new trade, and that this is not sportsbook or investment advice. We link out instead of cloning those click paths.
Is selling a filled Polymarket position the same as a sportsbook cash-out?
No. Official What is Polymarket US / Official Prices & Market Data: Polymarket US runs a central limit order book. Other traders take the other side. Official Can I sell early? is a sale on that book, paid at the price the book will take. A sportsbook cash-out is a house quote you take or leave. See prediction markets vs sportsbooks if you wanted a house cash-out button. There isn’t one. Nothing here is sportsbook advice or investment advice.
Can I sell a filled Polymarket position in every US state?
No. As of our June 2026 check Polymarket was reported unavailable in Arizona, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, Nevada and Ohio. Florida is a green-light state. Sports markets are the most legally contested category anywhere. Confirm the ticket still appears and the filled row still accepts an exit before you treat those shares as sold.
Which claim button is actually live on this page?
Polymarket only. The claim button hops through /go/polymarket. There is no /go/kalshi, DraftKings, FanDuel, Underdog, Sleeper, PrizePicks, Hard Rock or BetRivers claim here. We do not invent tracking URLs.
Is there a Polymarket sell-position bonus or promo code on this page?
No. We do not publish a dollar welcome or a promo code. Partner codes that appear on other sites belong to those publishers. Confirm any live terms in the Polymarket US app. If you open Polymarket through our link we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you — that is not a user bonus.
Is selling a filled Polymarket position the same as cashing an NFL DFS lineup?
No. Daily fantasy is a state-licensed gambling product — often 21+, with a 1-800-GAMBLER frame. Event contracts are CFTC-regulated financial/derivatives products, typically 18+ with KYC. Selling a filled Yes/No is a trade on a CLOB, not a contest cash-out. The ticket can still settle at zero if you hold instead. There is no protected bonus floor.
