Who this guide is for
US adults who are about to place a new Polymarket US order and need to set the limit price — the number you are willing to pay or sell at — before that order rests. This is not how to read trade history, not how to read your portfolio, not how to read open orders, not how to read a partial fill, not how to cancel an open order, not how to sell a filled position, and not how to tell maker from taker. Those pages are completed fills, the live list, leftover size already on the book, the middle state, the unfilled undo, the exit on shares you still hold, and the role after a clip sits or lifts. This page is typing the price. Then we link out. Polymarket is the only live outbound on this page.
What a limit price is
Official Orders & Trading is the published split: you set a price, or you take the book now. Official Glossary calls that number a chosen price. Official Prices & Market Data is a central limit order book — not a house line. See prediction markets vs sportsbooks if you wanted a parked sportsbook number. There isn’t one.
The chosen price — what you will pay, or what you will sell at
Official Glossary + Orders & Trading
Official Glossary: an order is a request to buy or sell contracts at a chosen price. Official Orders & Trading: a limit order is you set a price; the order sits on the book until someone trades against it, or you cancel it. On a buy, that number is the most you are willing to pay. On a sell, it is the least you will accept. Official Order Types: price protection — the fill is never worse than the price you set. We do not reprint a live bid or ask.
Not a market / taker fill — that path does not type a resting price
Official Orders & Trading + Liquidity
Official Orders & Trading: a market order fills immediately at the best available price and you pay the spread. Official Prices & Market Data: that now-fill is a taker — you take posted size. Official Liquidity, on that take-now walk: you cannot set a custom limit price; the price you receive depends on what is available at the moment you submit. This page is the other action: type the price first, then let the order rest if it does not cross. It is not How to tell maker from taker — that page only names the role after the clip sits or lifts.
The printed number is still the YES side
Official Orders & Trading
Official Orders & Trading: when you place an order, the price always refers to the YES side. Buying YES is a long on the outcome happening. Selling YES is the published way to trade the outcome not happening. Official Prices & Market Data: every contract is priced between $0 and $1 — that is the published scale, not tonight’s board. We will not paste a live cents print onto this page.

Where the limit price field lives
Hard rule: if official US help names a field, we name it. If a box is not on those pages, we describe the action. Official Website vs App splits the international site from the US desk.
On the new-order card — if public US help or the live card shows it
Action, not an invented header
Official Place a Trade and Official Order Placement reprint Yes or No, a dollar amount or Max, review, then swipe to confirm. Those pages do not reprint a retail field labelled Limit price, Price, or Cents on the swipe we checked. We will not invent one. Official Orders & Trading already names the action: you set a price. If the live US card already shows Limit, Limit price, Price, or a cents box, use that live word. If it only lets you type or step a number with no header, type the number you will pay or sell at before you confirm.
US app — not polymarket.com
Official Website vs App
Official Website vs App: US residents deposit and trade in the Polymarket US app, not on the international website. Official What is Polymarket US? is the CFTC-regulated designated contract market this record belongs to. Official Place a Trade is written for that US swipe. If a control is labelled differently in-app, follow the live screen. If the sports desk is hidden where you live, stop.
API “Limit price” is not a retail chip we will paste on the swipe
Official Orders API Overview
Official Orders API Overview names a developer price object and the words Limit price on ORDER_TYPE_LIMIT. That is useful if you already have the authenticated access those pages describe. It is not permission to tell a US retail reader to open a developer portal, paste a key, or treat price.value as a phone label. We describe the action on the live card instead of inventing that chip.
No invented Limit price tab · type the number if the live card shows it · US app, not polymarket.com
A limit is not a market / taker fill
Official Order Types is the processing rule underneath. Official Spreads is what a take-now buy or sell pays. Official Liquidity is the walk that does not let you type a custom limit. We name those clocks. We do not reprint a live dollar.
Type a price that does not cross — the order can rest
Official Prices & Market Data
Official Prices & Market Data: when you place a limit at a specific price and it does not fill immediately, it sits on the book waiting. Official Glossary: an open order is still waiting to be filled. Official Orders & Trading lifecycle after you confirm: Pending, then Open. Finding that resting clip later is How to read open orders. This page stops at typing the price — before it rests.
Take the book now — no custom limit on that walk
Official Spreads + Liquidity
Official Spreads: a marketable buy pays the ask; a marketable sell receives the bid. Official Prices & Market Data: the BBO is the price a market order would trade at right now. Official Liquidity: on that take-now path you cannot set a custom limit price. That is the market / taker fill this how-to is not. We do not reprint a live BBO.
A typed price that crosses still fills like a market — it is not a rest
Official Prices & Market Data + Order Types
Official Prices & Market Data: if your limit’s price crosses the best available on the other side, it fills immediately, like a market order. Official Order Types: available size fills at the best price shown; leftover can rest as an open order at the price you set. Official Order Types teaching example uses a $0.52 ask and a 1,000-lot clip — that is a docs book, not tonight’s NFL board. The now-fill is still a take. The leftover that stays is size you already priced. How to read a partial fill names that split. We do not clone it.
Official rest vs take-now · crossing still fills like a market · no invented live BBO
How to type the limit price on a new order
-
Step 1
Open one market on the US app and confirm it still accepts orders
Official Place a Trade: from the home screen, tap any market to open it, then choose Yes or No. Official Prices & Market Data: Open accepts orders; Pre-open, Suspended, Halted, or Expired does not trade the same way. Official Website vs App: US residents use the Polymarket US app, not polymarket.com. If the sports desk is hidden where you live, stop. This page assumes you are about to type a price on a new order — not read History, not cancel leftover size, and not sell a ticket you already hold.
-
Step 2
Decide you will set a price — not take the book at the BBO
Official Orders & Trading: a limit is a price you set; a market fills immediately at the best available price and you pay the spread. Official Liquidity: on the take-now walk you cannot set a custom limit price. If you wanted that now-fill, stop here — this how-to is the typed number. Official Place a Trade does not reprint a Limit versus Market chip on the swipe we checked. We will not invent one. The action is: will you type the price you will pay or sell at, or will you take posted size now?
-
Step 3
Find the live price box if public help or the card shows it — then type the number
Official Place a Trade and Official Order Placement reprint a dollar amount or Max. They do not reprint a retail field labelled Limit price, Price, or Cents on the swipe we checked. Official Orders & Trading already names the action: you set a price. If the live US card shows Limit, Limit price, Price, or a cents box, use that live word and type the most you will pay (buy) or the least you will accept (sell). If there is no header, type or step the number before you review. We do not reprint a live cents print, and we will not paste an API price.value onto the phone.
-
Step 4
Read whether that number will rest or cross — then review before you confirm
Official Prices & Market Data: if the typed price does not cross the other side, the order can sit; if it does cross, it fills now like a market. Official Order Types: leftover size can rest at the price you set. Official Place a Trade: review your order details, then swipe up to confirm. Official Orders & Trading: the printed price refers to the YES side. Size, cancel, selling a filled position, and the maker/taker stamp live on later how-tos. This step only checks the number you typed.
-
Step 5
Stop — History, Portfolio, open orders, and a partial fill are later how-tos
Official Glossary: History is past filled orders and closed positions. Official Monitor Your Positions is the live Portfolio list. Official Glossary: an open order is still waiting — How to read open orders. Official Order Types: some matched, rest still open — How to read a partial fill. Canceling leftover size and selling a ticket you already hold are their own click paths. Event contracts can settle at zero. Trade only what you can afford to lose. Nothing here is investment advice.
This is not History, Portfolio, or a sale
Official Glossary: History is past filled orders and closed positions. That completed-trade list lives on How to read trade history on Polymarket. Official Monitor Your Positions is contracts you still hold. That live list lives on How to read your portfolio on Polymarket. Official Glossary: an open order is still waiting. Finding that remainder is How to read open orders on Polymarket. Official Order Types: some matched, rest still open. That split is How to read a partial fill on Polymarket. This page will not invent a US Limit price chip, and it will not reprint a live cents print.
The broader rest / cancel / partial walk is How to place a limit order on Polymarket. The role after a clip sits or lifts is How to tell maker from taker on Polymarket. Pulling leftover size is How to cancel an open order on Polymarket. The exit on shares you still own is How to sell a filled position on Polymarket. We do not clone those pages.
API “Limit price” is not a retail Price chip
Official Orders API Overview names a developer price
object and the words Limit price on ORDER_TYPE_LIMIT.
Official Order Types still processes retail flow as marketable limit
orders with price protection. That is useful if you already have the
authenticated access those pages describe. It is not permission to
tell a US retail reader to open a developer portal, paste a key, or
run a script — and it is not a reason to invent a Limit price tab on
the US swipe.
Blocked and contested states
Reported unavailable as of June 2026: Arizona, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, Nevada and Ohio. That list is not a promise it stays still — litigation around sports event contracts in particular can narrow or shift access. If you are in a listed state, do not type a limit on the assumption the desk is open. If you are in Florida or another green-light state, still confirm the ticket appears and still accepts a typed price before you leave size on the book.
Age is 18+ with identity verification. That is a different gate from the 21+ / responsible-gambling frame on our DFS pages, because these are traded financial instruments. If you also want NFL DFS, start at the picks hub — those contest-lock rules do not carry over. Compare platforms on the prediction-markets hub.
What you will not get from this page
A dollar welcome match, a paste-this promo code, a live bid or ask, an invented Limit price / Price / Cents field the official US swipe pages do not print, a cloned trade-history / portfolio / open-orders / partial-fill / cancel-open-order / sell-filled-position / maker-from-taker / place-a-limit-order walkthrough, a newsletter form, or claim buttons for Kalshi, DraftKings, FanDuel, Underdog, Sleeper, PrizePicks, Hard Rock or BetRivers. We could not verify a standing official US welcome bonus on Polymarket’s own terms. Other publishers’ partner codes are theirs; we do not copy them. The honest user-facing line is still US access via CFTC-regulated QCEX — official Orders & Trading says you set a price on a limit, official Place a Trade does not reprint a Limit price field on the swipe we checked, official Liquidity says the take-now walk cannot set a custom limit, a typed price that does not cross can rest, a typed price that crosses fills like a market, this is not sportsbook or investment advice, and anything those public pages do not print is not a label or a number we invent.
